Sadie at OnlyHuman :: Shop Dogs

If your going to live in a city named after a Queen you might as well have the current Queen’s favorite dog, right? It was a pleasure meeting Sadie, aka Ms. Shop Boss at OnlyHuman. I love her Cleopatra eyes and short little legs. She has such a great personality and we quickly became friends. The only downside of photographing a Corgi is that you literally have to lie on the floor to get down to their level. Something to keep in mind next time I meet one – don’t wear black pants.

Thank you Christina and Chris for letting me come by!

Beatrix :: Shop Dogs

Beatrix was the second Brussel Griffon I photographed last week and boy was she a cutie! You don’t see many Brussel Griffons (I had NEVER seen one til I moved to Victoria) so it was a delight to get to see three of them in one day last week (the third one I saw was at the park and belongs to my neighbor). Beatrix works at Mille Fiori with her mama and shop owner Christine. Not only is Beatrix a great little Shop Dog she is also an expert cuddler and spent an hour happily snoozing in my lap while I got the best. pedi. ever.

Cash :: A Victoria Adoptables Veteran

Cash was the second teenage dog I photographed last week and though he could sit still for a bit longer than Mitchell, he was still very much a teenager, and as such not listening to much of what any of us where saying to him. Still he was a true joy to hang out with and I love that puppy energy that dogs his age have.

Almost every shoot I do with a dog, I catch at least one photo them blinking. Cash, it turns out blinks a lot. I think I came across five, but this one was my favorite, by far!

Courtney - Aw! Somebody wants to play fetch! Great set Jesse!

Rayne and Billie :: Shop Dogs

For this project I figured it was  too obvious to photograph Shop Dogs that work at “Dog Shops,” so I went in search of other small businesses that catered to the more general public. But as I am nearing my goal of ten shops, I decided it would be good to include one “Dog Shop,” so I called up my friends at Diamond Dogs and asked if I could come by. Happily they said yes, so on Friday I went and hung out with a pack of dogs for an hour. Billie, the Brussel Griffon, belongs to owner Samie-Pearl and Rayne, the Burmese Mountain dog comes to work with groomer extrodinaire, Kelsea.

I love Billie’s sweet lil face!

And Rayne can be such a goof! Here she is showing off her “playing dead” maneuver, something I am now trying to teach my own dog. I don’t actually know this Bulldogs name, but I do know that that is his spot and every time I’ve stopped by Diamond Dogs, there he has been.

Mitchell :: A Victoria Adoptables Veteran

Not gonna lie teenage dogs are NOT easy to photograph! But they are soooo easy to love. Enter Mitchell – very happy-go-lucky 8 month(ish) old Shepard, Rotty, Chow mix, who would. not. sit. still. Luckily he will focus on squeaky toys, balls and treats, so I was able to hold his attention for half a second at a time, which luckily is more than enough time when you are shooting at 1/250 of a second. And I was warned by his owner that he could be a handful, so I knew what I was getting into. Still, I had a ton of fun and got my fair share of dog kisses.

Gawd, I love those big ears and yes, even his big ol mouth.

Mitchell’s “big sis” is Brynn, a great Border Collie, who finally rediscovered what it was like to play and be a puppy when Mitchell came into her life. And I just love those eyes! These last two photos epitomize Mitchell’s attitude: a constantly moving, happy-go-lucky dog who just wants to give you lots and lots and lots of kisses (and possibly eat your braided hair).

Happy Friday!
