In fact at times he can be downright bad. So a few months ago I sought out some professional help and ended up in the VERY capable hands of Darcie from CommuniCanine. So, it was a delight to get to photograph Darcie and her own lil pack of dogs. If you have a Puppy, or just need some help with your dog give Darcie a ring! A range of classes and offers great one on one sessions. She also has some very helpful (and adorable) videos over on YouTube, talking about the training she has done with her newest addition Cricket. The Puppy Project videos can be seen here.

Carson’s parents recently got married and one of my closer photographer friends photographed their wedding. And Carson lives just around the corner from me. Carson is an adorable little pup and had found a great home.

And then you can give them bizarre nicknames on top of that. My little Charlie has been called everything from Sir Charles to Poo Pot (obscene a bit, yes! But also true!) And I love unique dog names. So, it was a delight to get to meet these two little Schnauzers, Scrabble and Checkers.  Scrabble is the younger one and is a strong willed little puppy. She also may be the smallest dog I have photographed yet – crawling around on your stomach makes it hard to keep up with a puppy too. Checkers though, is eager to please and was a very dignified little subject.

 

These two reside with a cat and an African Grey Parrot as well. I think Scrabble enjoys pestering the cat just a bit too much.

He is also the litter mate of Henry! When Tripp’s Mom got in touch with me she told me a bit about him, so I thought I would share his story with you, dear readers:

This little man was born without a shin bone in his left rear leg. He also had a terrible hernia, which required surgery when he was really too small, ideally, to have it, but it was endangering his life. His left um.. nut.. was discovered in his armpit as it (obviously) didn’t “land” as planned, and then a second surgery done on the hernia, as it reoccured. This little dude has never looked back, though. Nothing troubles him at at all now. He is this amazing bit of light on the planet. He runs like the wind on his 3 and 1/2 legs, he loves life, everything and everyone, and everything and everyone and life loves him, too. He has even won the heart of my almost 14 year old rescue, Georgie. “The dog that won’t play”.. I had the great fortune of bringing her into my life when she was four. I was her eighth known home, then, and based on her filed down teeth, broken ribs and broken heart, at least some of those homes weren’t happy ones. It took a long time (a looong time~!), but that wee wonder is the most bomb proof dog I have ever met. And.. She plays, now. She plays with Tripp~!

Tripp was a bit unsure of the big scary camera and as such didn’t really warm up to me, but he had a great time running around the field and he really does run like the wind. It really warms my heart to see such a happy dog being taken care of by such a loving and understanding woman.

A few of Tripp’s friends came to the park to “watch the photoshoot” and when Tripp refused to come and sit still for me (all he wants to do it run!), Maya came right on over and took his place. I think she wants to be a model as I had to have her owner distract her with a ball otherwise she would have just followed me around for the whole shoot. She’s a cutie though!

You can read more about the “human” side of the trip here and from the air here, but I was pleasantly surprised with how many people brought along their dogs. Pippa, pictured first  below, was my favorite, but only because puppies are always my favorite. All the other dogs were just as friendly and funny, just not quite as squishable. For the last 31 years my uncle Bob has been taking a trip to Flying M Ranch to study vernal pools and hang out with fellow botanists. This year I got to tag along. As did Bob’s new puppy Pippa. Who immediately stole my heart. I had Border Collies growing up and getting to hang out with Pippa was one of many highlights on the trip. Here is a shot of Pippa. More to come of Pippa and lots of other dogs who were on the trip.

It was a pleasure meeting Sadie, aka Ms. Shop Boss at OnlyHuman. I love her Cleopatra eyes and short little legs. She has such a great personality and we quickly became friends. The only downside of photographing a Corgi is that you literally have to lie on the floor to get down to their level. Something to keep in mind next time I meet one – don’t wear black pants.

You don’t see many Brussel Griffons (I had NEVER seen one til I moved to Victoria) so it was a delight to get to see three of them in one day last week (the third one I saw was at the park and belongs to my neighbor). Beatrix works at Mille Fiori with her mama and shop owner Christine. Not only is Beatrix a great little Shop Dog she is also an expert cuddler and spent an hour happily snoozing in my lap while I got the best. pedi. ever.
