Q: Where is the best place to take photos?
A: This is a bit dependent on your pets recall and ability to be controlled off leash. I love shooting everywhere from people’s back yards to the woods around Thetis Lake.
Q: What time should I schedule my photoshoot?
A: Mornings and late afternoon are the best. In photography we refer to these two hours, after sunrise and before sunset, as the golden hours (though in Victoria is it often just grey). In the winter though, especially in Victoria, you can shoot almost anytime of day, because the sun is so low in the sky. Also, if it is overcast the light is flattering all day.
Q: Where is your studio?
A: I primarily shoot on location. If you are really looking for that studio feel though, I do have a portable studio that I can set up specifically for pets. If you have a 10×10 foot area in your home that can be cleared I can set up a studio.
Q: What should I do to get my pet ready for the shoot?
A: My biggest recommendation is to take your dog for a nice long walk before the shoot. I recommend a half hour minimum for small dogs and an hour for older dogs. This will help relax them both when meeting me and during the shoot.
Q: Can I be in the photos with my pets?
A: Absolutely. I always want to get some photos of just your pet, but I also love capturing the relationship between humans and their pets.
Q: How many photos will I get?
A: This depends on how many photos you decide to order. A pet portrait session with me has three parts, a consultation – to discuss what you want from the session, the shoot – my favorite part, and a viewing session – my goal is that this if your favorite part! During the viewing session you get to view all the photos and decide which ones you would like to order. You can order everything from a disc of digital negatives up to a huge canvas. The options truly are endless.
